When you ask a passionate collector what their favorite treasure in their collection is, it is almost impossible to answer. Filters of nostalgia, bias, value, aura, and scarcity all warp together in a legendarily difficult choice. When posed this question, I however, have a singular snapshot of time in my collection that will live in my heart forever.
Christmas Day in the National Basketball Association. A regal honor, that teams chosen to play on that day compete with a different air of miracle, hope, and pride. My favorite team, the New Orleans Pelicans, were invited to play on Christmas Day in 2015 for the first time in franchise history. Largely to do with my favorite player Anthony Davis, at the time a young 22 year old ascending two way superstar, was emerging in the league. Who was our holiday gift to play us on that day? The juggernaut Miami Heat featuring an all time defensive great, Chris Bosh. The moment itself minted to only /55 on NBATopShot, features a superhuman swat by Anthony Davis on Hall of Fame forward, Chris Bosh. Not only was the play legendary, but the Christmas Day holiday script jerseys both squads were sporting was iconic. A small market team like the New Orleans Pelicans playing on Christmas Day featuring our homegrown superstar meant a lot to our fan base. This is a moment in time I will always cherish as a New Orleans Pelicans super fan.
A gift forever wrapped in time.
