Zach Edey will be a force to be reckoned with in year 3 for the Memphis Grizzlies. He has already been heralded as the new era Grit n Grind cornerstone, and rightfully so. I knew from the moment he got drafted the big fella was going to be a big deal and I saw the doubt from the outside crowd coming from a Canadian mile away. His game wouldn’t translate? He’s too slow? He has no bag? The Big Maple let his game do the talking and now there is nothing but silence and exciting anticipation as the Big Zamboni gears up for year 3 as one of the faces of the franchise.

His rookie season was one to remember , earning All Rookie First Team while averaging 9.2 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, 1.3 blocks per game, and leading all rookies in FG% with an astounding 58%. Even though his 2nd year fell short to an ankle surgery securing his future longevity, increased his averages to 13.6 points per game, 11.1 rebounds per game, and 1.9 blocks per game. I expect his Junior season in the NBA to take an even greater leap. His three ball mechanics look solid and he’s getting faster and more agile with every game he plays. He wasn’t a 2x National College Player of the Year for nothing as a Boilermaker. Another big man by the name of Tim Duncan had a similar college career and late blossom into NBA stardom.

On NBATopShot I was Zach Edey’s #1 fan from the jump. I own 100% of his #1 rookie serials ever minted including this #1 Rookie Rare Honors moment, celebrating the Big Maple’s rookie dominance. I was even fortunate enough to see the big fella at 2025 Summer League, and show him his #1 serial rookie debut on NBATopShot which I will forever be the proud owner of.

My take? Zach Edey will be the best Center to ever play for the Memphis Grizzlies and he will take the mantle of the face of the franchise. Most have doubted his transition to the NBA and they fell flat on their face, and those who will continue to doubt his growth will keep having to try and dust themselves off.

Big Maple, big leap.
