Get your tickets now to see the best show in town this side of the French Quarter. He is a slow-cooking showman who dominates the hardwood at an incredible size. Don’t worry—you can afford to blink a couple of times while watching this rookie dissect your favorite team and still catch the photo finish. From Baltimore to the Big Easy, Derik Queen has arrived in New Orleans, and he looks like the new face of the Pelicans’ franchise.
In May of 2025, I called my shot on my podcast, Down in the Bayou, and made a bold proclamation that I wanted my beloved New Orleans Pelicans to select Derik Queen or Jeremiah Fears with our 7th pick. As fate would have it, in June we nabbed both of them, and I was over the moon. I had the privilege of spending time in Las Vegas in July to watch Derik Queen and the Pelicans at the 2025 Summer League. At 6’10”, DQ was making incredible passes against Bronny James and the Lakers, and I knew exactly what I was witnessing: the birth of “Baby Jokic” with a Chris Webber remix.
His rookie campaign in the 2025–2026 NBA season was filled with fireworks, historic triple-doubles, and show-stopping dimes from the rookie big man that left our fan base speechless. His most memorable performance—on December 8th, 2025, against the San Antonio Spurs—left me stunned on my couch. Derik Queen dominated the game with Zion Williamson out, putting up a historic 33-point triple-double. Once the game was over, I knew this would become his most coveted rookie moment on NBATopShot when it was inevitably minted.
This jaw-dropping performance rightfully found its place in the scarcest legendary rookie set on the platform: Rookie Revelation. I was early on our future big man star from the very beginning of the NBATopShot season, and I have maintained the top spot on his player leaderboard from day one. As his undisputed top fan, I was airdropped his jersey-serial standard Rookie Revelation moment—minted to just /29 standard versions, /5 galactic, and a /1 omega parallel. The cover art belongs in a basketball museum, meant to be fawned over for eternity. Easter eggs like blue Maryland crabs, a queen’s crown, and lotus flowers donning New Orleans Pelicans colors represent growth, beauty, and prosperity through a chaotic environment. This will undoubtedly be remembered as Derik Queen’s breakout performance, announcing himself as the future face of the franchise in New Orleans—a must-have moment that will pay dividends once he takes the crown.
This season on NBATopShot has been an absolute pleasure, collecting and following Derik Queen. In March, before the Rookie Revelation drop, Derik Queen himself joined the NBATopShot Breaks livestream. I was able to join the stream as well and chat with my favorite rookie from my favorite team. We discussed his rookie season, his chemistry with Trey Murphy, and his moments—ones I told him I wouldn’t even sell back to him. Derik Queen has been nothing short of a revelation for our franchise, and we’re lucky to watch him grow and play for our team.
Long live the Queen.
