I write knowing full well I might not ever achieve this, however it’s been my long term goal since the season started and I’m oh so close….
I currently have 8/9 Kobe Sanders #1s, I’m currently in waiting….expectantly, like a thirsty Gazelle at a crowded watering hole for the missing Omega 1/1 to be pulled. The prize itself lurks within the remaining Rookie Revelation Standard packs of which there are still 1,864 unopened, out of the original 7,250.
My hope is it isn’t warehoused in someone’s pack inventory where it will gather dust sealed and never surface. However, I would almost prefer that, to it falling into the wrong hands of GPH & Nerja and being coerced to pony up a King’s Ransom.
I’ve collected rather silently up and until now, as sometimes going public with your collection plans spurs people into unfortunately adjusting their prices as they expect you to open the wallet and pay the premium. I’ve paid what I think is a fair price along the way and hope to do so for the Omega should the opportunity present itself, however, I realize if it does fall into the wrong hands then I might well finish incomplete at 8/9.
I personally like the changes this season to the parallel format, It has opened up a much favored long-term collecting option of mine. I’ve previously attempted (with no success) a few of these over the years back when I was just collecting physical cards from the vast and somewhat overwhelming array of Panini Parallels. The best I managed was ~17 of 19 Devin Vassell Crown Royale 2020/21s (his Rookie year) - after securing the two 1/1s, I believe I'm still missing /4 & /10....maybe one day haha...... Anyone who has embarked on the futile search for a Prizm Rainbow or other such set with a multitude of parallels will know its a challenging and at times frustrating endeavor. The excruciating wait for those rare low serials on Ebay to surface, never knowing if they have been pulled, destroyed or locked up long term by a fellow collector, this makes the transparency of Topshot a godsend here.
#1s on NBA Topshot are highly sought after, and rookie badges only make things more of a challenge, when you combine that with the competition from other collectors you have a recipe that could lead to disappointment, but that's the fun of it all. I hope my next post is one of celebration, where I have the full 9/9 #1 Kobe Sanders locked up for good..!
Finally, (in case anyone from topshot is reading this) sitting on my UI improvements wish list is an overhaul of showcase options to enable larger and more tailored displays of one's collecting prowess. It’s impossible currently to get a good screenshot of my progress, so here's a link to the sparkly eight #1s I have so far
