I was at home in Australia listening to the NBA Topshot Breaks podcast back in January 2026 and overheard that if you were at a game to let the team know - there might be an opportunity to be featured in a moment. I have been a lifelong Spurs fan since I discovered the NBA in 1990. It was David Robinson's rookie season and the Spurs were a time on the rise with Terry Cummings, Sean Elliott and Rod Strickland. I was completely hooked. The Admiral gave way to championships with Timmy D, Parker and Manu.
I travelled from Australia to San Antonio to watch them play the Bucks for a major birthday milestone (the one with the 5 in front). It was a bucket list experience for me, and one I'll never forget. From walking into the Frost bank centre, lingering in front of the pictures on the walls, looking at the trophies. It was something I had dreamed since I was a kid and a night I'll never forget. The night was fulfilled by a bald Wemby going berserk and the Spurs torched the Bucks.
A couple of days later I sent a message on discord to Steve, not really expecting anything.
"Hey Steve - I overheard on a breaks podcast to let you know if you are at a game to have the potential to be in a moment. I’m a lifelong spurs fan and travelled from Melbourne to San Antonio to watch the spurs play Milwaukee for my birthday. I am wearing a grey hat about four rows behind the spurs bench. I know the moon and stars might not line up but figured I’d ask. All the best (ncd)"
Steve replied : Woh wow!! Which game was it?!
Ncd : The spurs Milwaukee game yesterday
Steve : First off, happy birthday!!! let me see what I can do!
And that was I thought the end of it.
But then, A few days later Steve pings me: "Your in...." and adds this pic
I was in disbelief!
I'm not sure of any other way that you can kind of get that kind of thing to happen. For a lifelong fan to become part of the collectible. To connect a special memory of your own history to a piece of basketball history. A verifiable moment in time that intersected with my own special moment. I look back on this moment with happiness, as it brings back everything that was wonderful about that night, and the fulfilment of a lifelong dream. Thanks Steve!
