In some alternate universe, this is a huge digital collectible.
By all rights FIFA Collect should have been huge. The concept is obvious. As much as NBA Top Shop brings basketball alive as collectibles, this platform had the potential to do the same for the premier international sports tournament.
But the original team bolted and the new owners decided to turn it into an elaborate ticketing platform for FIFA events. I have to think though that some day this moment is going to have a real market.
And what moment is this? Oh, no biggie--just capturing the actual moment that Lionel Messi got his World Cup trophy before having an epic celebration with this team. Only available as a limited burn reward that required giving up some quality pieces to get enough points fast enough to get one before they were all claimed.
I have some other game-based moments from this platform to share down the road, but I feel like this one is such a great example of why video collectibles have staying power. No card or digital version of a card could capture this pinnacle of Messi's career the same way.
You can see his joy and his relief. You can see how excited his teammates are for helping him capture the cup. You can hear the crowd react to all of it.
It's an amazing tableau and only 43 exist.
