The Moment

A lead that wouldn’t stay put.

Yankee Stadium. July 24, 1983. With two outs in the ninth, George Brett hits a two-run homer off Goose Gossage. Kansas City goes ahead, 5–4. The argument over his bat will outlast the afternoon.

I have never seen anyone as mad as George Brett on that day.
